One thing I was always interested in since I was little, was reading the programs given at funerals. When my parents attended burials and came back with those booklets, I would collect them and go sit somewhere to read. I was always interested in reading the stories of how a person spent their life, what they did and who they impacted.
I remember reading the story of somebody and at that point, something hit me; a lot of these stories all seem to have a similar format, the names, dates, places etc were different but a lot of them had almost the same kind of story. It was as if there was a template somewhere, and things just got edited and moved around for different people.
The story had all the good stuff they normally write in it, but that day it was very clear to me, that I do not want my eulogy or story to look like this.
I knew I would not be the one to write my eulogy, but if I wanted to live a life of purpose and not live out the script it seems is handed out to people by the world or their circumstances at one point in their lives, then I must decide how my eulogy should look like. I must go to my maker and ask Him for my specific script, I must then use His strength that He has placed on my inside to ensure I am courageous enough to live out that script.
You would not write your eulogy, but a great way to decide what you want to do with your life is to ask, if I were writing my eulogy, what would I want written in it?
I mean specific things, not just he went to church everyday or she sang in the choir.
What specifics in terms of the impact you make and the lives you touch would you want written about you?
Now go do those things!
